Feinstein Junior Scholar Wetlands Trail

COMPLETED!
A staple of Roger Williams Park Zoo, the original wetlands trail opened in 1980 as a sanctuary for the unique plants and animals indigenous to New England, some of them are threatened species. In April, 2007 we completed a total revitalization of the trail and it reopened as the Feinstein Junior Scholar Wetlands Trail.

What it Looks Like

The new trail is a beautiful 1/4 mile walking path through Rhode Island's most endangered habitat.  On any given day, visitors can discover a variety of native wildlife including Great blue herons, Canada geese, Wood ducks and turtles.

Interactive features along the trail are aimed at encouraging visitors to get a closer look at and engage with the natural world around them.  They include a cedar bird blind, artists' easels, cedar docent exploration station and identification signs for the native plants and animals, designed to look like notes and sketches in the pages of a nature journal.

Timeframe and budget:
Funded through a $500,000 grant from the Feinstein Foundation; completed in April, 2007.
